Abstract

Document translation requires more than replacing isolated sentences. Page structure, reading order, and mathematical notation carry meaning across the document.

Our method separates linguistic content from layout metadata before rebuilding the translated page.

What to know before translating a PDF.

Will my PDF keep its original layout?+

The translator is designed to retain page structure, formulas, tables, images, and reading order where possible. Because translated text can be longer or shorter than the source, some line breaks and spacing may change.

Can I translate scanned PDFs?+

Scanned documents require OCR before translation. OCR support will be marked as beta when the processing backend is connected. Clear, high-resolution scans produce better results than photographed or skewed pages.

Which languages are supported?+

The initial interface includes English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian. Actual availability depends on the translation service configured on the server.

What are the file size and page limits?+

The initial product limit is 50 MB and 100 pages per PDF. These guardrails can be changed after server memory and real document performance have been measured.

How long does PDF translation take?+

Processing time depends on page count, layout complexity, and the translation provider. The task page will show completed pages instead of an unreliable time estimate.

What happens to my files after translation?+

The planned retention period is 24 hours, followed by automatic deletion of the source and generated files. This policy will be enabled and documented when file storage is connected.
